St. Ephrem’s Theological College reopened today after the long
summer vacation. All the fathers and brothers returned to the house
with new vigour and enthusiasm. The kitchen of ETC was renovated and
modified during the vacation. 8 Benjamin joined the seminary and one
among them is a Vincentian. The 2nd year theologians also have got
a new companion. The total strength of the seminary is 68. Fr. Jerom
Puthukulangara from the Eparchy of Gorakhpur also joined the seminary
resident staff as the spiritual director and the professor of canon
There was a general cleaning and the brothers settled in. Fr. James
Akkamparampil had gone to Kerala for his mother’s 1st death
anniversary. The list of the new office bearers was put up and the
brothers took charge. The monthly recollection began after Leliya.
Fr. Joseph Edattu VC was the preacher. He gave the night points.
The monthly recollection ended by noon. Fr. George Vadakumchery and
DST sisters from Maihar paid a visit to the seminary. Solemn Ramsa
was celebrated in the evening as it was the eve of Dukhrana by Dn.
Dukhrana means remembrance. And for Syro-Malabar Christians it is
the day of the remembrance of their father in faith St. Thomas, the
apostle. ETC celebrated the feast very solemnly. Very Rev. Fr. Rector
Thomas Kochuthara celebrated the most solemn holy Qurbana in the morning.
Fathers from different communities of the Ephrem Pariwar concelebrated
the Raza. All those who bear the name of Thomas were remembered in
the mass and were wished festal greetings in the refectory. Fr. Alex
Pandarakappil felicitated on the occasion.
Later, the meeting of the inauguration of the new academic year was
held and Very Rev. Fr. George Mangalappilly presided over the meeting.
Very Rev. Fr. Rector welcomed all to the function and Rev Fr. John
Thoppil shared the plans and dreams in the new academic year. Bros.
Kurian Uppukandathil and Thomas Edathil felicitated and thanked on
the occasion respectively while Bro. Thomas Kochodackal performed
Before the lunch, Very Rev Fr. George Mangalappilly blessed the modified
kitchen and Very Rev. Fr. Rector thanked him for his support and helping
hands. A cricket match was conducted in the evening in connection
with the feast day celebrations. The fathers and brothers were present
in the ETC stadium to encourage the teams. Very Rev Fr Rector distributed
the prizes to the winners. All the fathers of ETC joined the dinner
with the DST community.
It was the birthday of Bro. Cleetus Palokkaran and he was wished by
the community during the breakfast. The classes began on regular basis.
Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara and Fr. John Thoppil went to Satna
for the Eparchial Consulter’s meeting.
Very Rev. Fr. Rector gave the brothers an instruction in the evening.
It was the feast of St. Alexander from whom Fr. Alex Pandarakappil
bears his name. He offered the Holy Qurbana in the morning. Very Rev.
Fr. Thomas Kochuthara greeted him the festal wishes before the breakfast.
Initiation ceremony of the new comers was conducted today evening.
Fr. Jerome Puthukulangara and 9 brothers were officially welcomed
to the ETC community. Several programs and various games made the
function beautiful. VC community also took part in the function. Dn.
Job Kattapurath gave a short message on the occasion.
The ETC community gathered in the auditorium after the supper to listen
to the new voices and the choir selection of the new comers took place.
Rev Frs. Mathew Uthirakulam, Joseph Ottapurackal and Bro. Dominic
Savio Kollarettu judged the event.
The Village Apostolate of the year 2015-16 was inaugurated today afternoon.
Rev. Fr. Jerome Puthukulangara inaugurated the ministry and gave a
short message on the mission given by Jesus. Very Rev. Fr. Rector,
the members of the staff and all the students gathered for the meeting.
12 villages were selected for this year’s ministry. The pastoral
ministry of the Deacons also started today.
Fr. James Akkamparambil rejoined the seminary community.
Bros. Francis Meenatheril, Kurian Uppukandathil and Joseph Vattapparayil
celebrated their birthday today and were greeted in the refectory.
Fr. Jerome Puthukulangara went to Gorakhpur for 4 days.
We received the sad news of the demise of the maternal sister of Dn.
John Pariyathumalil. A requiem mass was celebrated and Office of the
dead followed it.
Rev. Dr. Ayres Fernandes of the Arch-Diocese of Delhi reached the
seminary to take the class.
Bro. Jacob Kaithackathottiyil celebrated his birthday today. He was
greeted during the breakfast.

of ETC was celebrated in the morning and the Office of the dead followed
It was an important day for the Eparchy of Satna and the ETC for we
received the good news of the election of Rev. Fr. Joseph Kodakallil
as the new Bishop of Satna. He is a resident staff and a well-wisher
Today we had the Holy Qurbana in the Latin rite celebrated by Fr.
Fr. James Champakulathil from the parish of Khajuraho joined the seminary
for the meal.
Today was the feast day of St. James. ETC had 4 members who bear the
name of the Apostle- Fr. James Akkamparambil, Dn. James Kavunkal,
Bros. James Placherry and Jacob Kaithackathottiyil. Fr. James offered
the Holy Mass and all were greeted in a small gathering after the
Holy Mass. Fr. Ayres Fernandes left for Bangalore.
Sr. Smitha SD, the provincial superior of the Delhi province and the
former Superior General of the SD congregation and Sr. Mercia, the
superior of the SD convent, Satna joined the ETC community for the
meal. Very Rev. Fr. Rector and Fr. John Thoppil participated in the
Eparchial Consulters’ meeting.
We received the sad news of the demise of the aunt of Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam.
He offered the requiem mass for the repose of the soul which was followed
by the office of the dead. Fr. Joseph Ammaikunnel CMF joined the seminary
community to take classes for the 2nd and 3rd year theologians.
The feast of St. Alphonsa, the first saint of the Indian church, was
celebrated today. Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal offered the solemn
Holy Qurbana and the St. Alphonsa quarters (1st year’s block)
was blessed by Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam, their animator. Fr. Jerome
gave the spiritual instruction at 6:30 in the evening.
Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara greeted the brothers of the Bethany
Congregation as they celebrated the feast of their Congregation today.
A small gathering was arranged before the meal to congratulate Msgr.
Joseph Kodakallil, the bishop elect of Satna. It was his 1st arrival
to the seminary after the announcement of the election. Very Rev.
Fr. George Mangalappilly the Administrator who celebrated his birthday
today was also present on the occasion. Very Rev. Fr. Rector greeted
both of them and Bro. Varghese Kossackal, the General Prefect spoke
a few words of felicitation.
Today was the death anniversary of the father of Fr. John Thoppil
and the uncles of Fr. James Akkamparampil and Bro. Kurain Uppukandathil.
A requiem mass was offered for the repose of the souls followed by
the office of the dead.
Bro. Joseph Kurumuttath celebrated his birthday today and was greeted
during the breakfast.
We received the sad news of the demise of the maternal grandfather
of Bro. Joseph Chorattuchamackala. A requiem mass was celebrated for
repose of the departed soul and office of the dead followed it.
Fr. Thomas Chirattavayalil and Sr. Jasmine and Sr. Daisy of the Holy
Family Congregation from the parish of Kailaspur visited the seminary.
The 10th Convocation Day after being affiliated to the Paurastya Vidyapitham
and the 22nd New Priests’ Day of the ETC were celebrated in
connection with the feast day of St. John Maria Vianney, the patron
saint of the priests. 12 of the 13 ordained priests of ETC returned
to the Alma Mater to be part of the celebrations. One was absent on
the occasion due to health problems. The celebrations began with the
Solemn Ramsa lead by Fr. Antony Vattamattam VC. After the evening
prayers, all gathered in the ETC auditorium for the convocation ceremony.
Most Rev. Dr. Chacko Thottumarickal, the Bishop of Indore, was the
Chief Guest of the function and Very Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kodakallil
presided over the meeting. Very Rev. Fr. Rector welcomed all. Fr.
John Thoppil the Dean of Studies initiated the certificate distribution
ceremony. The 12 new priests took oath and received the B. Th. Degrees
from the Chief Guest. Dn. James Kavunkal felicitated on the occasion
and Bro. Samuel Panachavilayil OIC performed a solo. Very Rev. Fr.
Joseph Mangalappilly, the administrator and Rev Fr. Joseph Edattu

the 1st year theologians was held and in between the new priests shared
their pastoral experiences. Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara presented

celebration St. John Maria Vianney quarters (4th years) was blessed
by Fr. Devassy Kidangan. Ephrem Pariwar community also took part in
it. Later, a friendly match was conducted between the new priests
and the ETC team. The ETC team won the match. The new priests participated
in the Eparchial gatherings. They also found time to be in the other
communities of the Ephrem Pariwar. By the evening they left to Dewra
and later returned to their dioceses.

Fathers from different parishes of the Satna diocese where the deacons
go for pastoral service came to the seminary for a meeting to evaluate
the ministry and give suggestions. Frs. Thomas Chirattavayalil, Devassy
Puthenpurackal, Antony Panachickal and Mathew Tharakkunnel were here
from the different parishes of Kailaspur, Shergunj, Pathery and the
Cathedral respectively. Rev. Fr. John Kandathinkara, the Provincial
of the Vincentians, representing the parish of Maidani also was present
for the meeting. All the fathers joined for the meal and in the afternoon
they left. Fr. Jose Ammaikunnel left for Banglore after completing
Today was an important day in ecclesiastical and secular realms, for
it was the feast day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
and the 69th Independence Day of India. The day was begun at the feet
of the Lord with the high sung Solemn Holy Qurbana offered by Fr.
James Akkamparambil. After the Holy Qurbana there was the Flag hoisting
ceremony. Fr. James himself was the chief guest. Bro. Joshua Edakadambil
OIC led the Pledge. Later, at noon an academy meeting was conducted
and the chief guest was Mrs. Rita Srivastava, the teacher of the St.
Claret School, Kothi. Brothers performed different programs in the
function like skit, patriotic song, musical instrument show, speech,
etc. The VC and Bethania communities also participated in the functions.
Rev. Frs. Mathew and Cyriac Njayarkulam CMF visited the seminary and
joined the community for the tiffin.
Fr. Thomas Manjalankal MST from the Ruhalaya seminary, Ujjain joined
the ETC community to take classes for the Deacons on Catechetics.
Frs. James Akkamparambil, Mathew Uthirakulam and Philip Chakkummoottil
went to Jabalpur and returned in the evening.
All the fathers and brothers gathered in the class room to have a
discussion on the Home Day celebrations of the year. It was decided
that there will not be any competitions this year.
It was the day of the One day outing for the brothers. The fourth
year theologians went to Maihar and the third year theologians went
to Rewa. The second and first years went to Chithrakoot and Khajuraho
respectively. Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara left for Kerala to participate
in the synod of the Syro- Malabar church taking place at St. Thomas

Fr. Thomas Manjalankal MST returned to Ujjain after completing his
‘Thiruvonam’- the festival of Kerala was celebrated in
ETC today. It is a festival celebrated wherever there are Keralites.
The brothers were engaged in different programs to make the day special.
The first year theologians made a beautiful ‘athappookkalm’
and conducted the Onam games. The second year theologians were in
charge of the preparation of the ‘Onasadya’ (lunch). Third
year theologians made necessary arrangements. The games were conducted
before the lunch and the ‘Maveli’ and ‘Vamanan’
reached on time. We had some special guests also on the occasion.
Fr. Rossnagal, the parish priest of Stuttgert and Sr. Daisy SABS,
the pastoral assistant from the diocese of Rottenburg, Germany and
Sr. Mable SABS the financial officer of the SABS provincial house,
Patheri visited the seminary as the guest of Fr. Joseph Ottappurackal.
Fr. Alex Pandarakappil welcomed all the guests in the refectory. Then
the delicious ‘Sadya’ was served. In the afternoon the
brothers went to take part in the Onam celebrations of the different
communities of the Ephrem Pariwar. Those communities visited ETC too
for the same purpose.
The maternal uncle of Bro. Jacob Kaithackathottiyl passed away. A
requiem Mass was offered followed by the office of the dead for the

Kanjiraparambil left for Kerala.
The celebrations in connection with the feast of the Nativity of Our
Lady began today. It comprises the solemn celebration of the evening
prayers with Malayalam sermons by the 3rd year theologians.

Very Rev. Fr. Rector rejoined the ETC community after participating
in the Synod. His Excellency Mar Mathew Vaniakizhakkel VC retired
from the charge of the Chairman for the Synodal Ad hoc committee of
St. Ephrem’s Seminary and instead Mar Sebastian Vadakkel MST
is appointed the new Chairman by the Synod.
Today was an important day for the 4th year theologians as they appeared
for the Comprehensive oral examination of Moral Theology and Canon
Law. Rev. Frs. Philip Chakkummoottil and Jerom Puthukulangara were
in the panel of examiners. A gathering was convoked in the evening
before supper to bid farewell to Rev. Fr. James Akkamparambil. Fr.
James had been serving the ETC community for the last 6 years in various
forms like professor, finance officer, animator, village apostolate
director, etc. Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara felicitated on the
occasion and presented him a gift as a token of our love and gratitude.
Bro. Thomas Panthalanickal spoke a few words from the part of the
brothers and the choir performed a felicitation song. Rev. Fr. Sebastian
Kallath VC, the new finance officer also was present on the occasion
and very Rev. Fr. Rector welcomed him to the community. The members
of the different communities of the Ephrem Pariwar participated in
Fr. James Akkamparambil left for Ujjain in the morning. Some of the
fathers and brothers accompanied him to the railway station. 5th September
is celebrated as the national teacher’s day in memory of Dr.
S. Radhakrishnan, the 1st President of India and ETC also celebrated
the day. All the fathers were greeted by the brothers before the breakfast.

Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC left for Kerala
It was the feast day of the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary. Fr. Joseph
Ottappurackal offered the solemn Holy Qurbana in the morning. The
8 days fast came to an end today. The day was also important as the
Symposium on the year of the Consecrated Life was held today. Fr.
John Thoppil, the Dean of Studies, extended a cordial welcome to all.
Very Rev. Fr. John Kandathinkara VC, the Provincial of the St. Thomas
Province of the Vincentians inaugurated the Symposium. Rev. Fr. Jerom
Puthukulangara was the Moderator. Papers were presented by Bros. Jacob
Kaithackathottiyil, Job Kavil OIC, John Vazhakalayil and Martin Chandrankunnel
VC on different topics of Consecrated life. Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Edattu
VC, fathers and sisters from different parishes of Satna, candidates
from different women religious congregations and brothers of the minor
seminary of the Vincentians and of the eparchy of Satna attended the
symposium. The symposium was over by noon and all joined the lunch.
In the evening, Deacons went to participate in the parish feast of
Patheri. Fr. Thomas Varakukalayil CMF, the former manager of the Claretian
Schools of Barakala and Kothi, joined the seminary community to take
classes for the 2nd and 3rd theologians on Missiology and for the
deacons on Mission in the Indian context.
Bro. Samuel Panachavilayil OIC celebrated his birthday today. He was
greeted during the breakfast. It was the monthly prayer day and it
began with the night prayers. Fr. Jerom was the preacher.
The prayer day was ended by noon. Bro. Thomas Kanjiraparambil rejoined
the community. Fr. Josy of the parish of Rewa was here for 2 days.
Rev. Fr. Pauli Maniattu of the eparchy of Idukki, a former professor
of ETC and Fr. Cyriac Valiyakunnumpuram of the arch-eparchy of Changanasserry
joined the Ephrem community. Both the fathers are the professors of
St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor. Brothers of the decoration
committee of the Episcopal Ordination went to Satna to do necessary
things along with those to present the cultural programme. Necessary
arrangements and cleaning were done in the seminary also to receive

of Bro. Lona Kattuparambil. He was greeted in the morning.
Today was an important day for the Syro Malabar Church as she celebrated
the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. There was a high sung Holy
Qurbana with the kissing of the Cross celebrated by Fr. Cyriac Valiyakunnumpuram.
As it was the previous day of the Episcopal Ordination, ETC had many
distinguished guests here. His Excellencies Mar Joseph Kunnath CMI,
the Bishop Emeritus of Adilabad, Mar Joseph Kollamparampil CMI, the
Bishop of Jagdalpur and Mar Rafi Manjaly, the Bishop of Allahabad
visited the seminary along with Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Mundakathil,
the Proto-syncellus of the Arch-eparchy of Changanassery. The family
members and relatives of Msgr. Joseph Kodakallil, who came for the
Ordination ceremony, also visited ETC.
This was the most awaited day of the month by the eparchy of Satna.
It was the Episcopal Ordination and Installation day of Very Rev.
Msgr. Joseph Kodakallil. Some of the fathers and brothers of ETC were
members of different committees. Rev. Frs. Joseph Ottapurackal, Alex
Pandarakappil and Jerom Puthukulangara were in the Liturgical committee
and Fr. John Thoppil was in charge of the transportation committee.
Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam was part of the decoration and stage committee.
All the brothers were part of one or the other committees. Mar George
Cardinal Alencherry, the Major Arch Bishop of the Syro-Malabar Church
was the Main celebrant of the Episcopal ordination and His Excellencies
Mar Mathew Vaniakizhakkel VC, the Bishop Emeritus of Satna and Mar
Leo Cornelius, the Arch bishop of Bhopal were the concelebrants. After
the ordination, the new bishop Mar Joseph Kodakallil offered the Holy
Qurbana which followed his installation as the bishop of Satna. Many
Bishops from different Syro-Malabar and Latin dioceses were present
on the occasion. Later there was a common gathering to greet the new
bishop. Many dignitaries participated in the meeting and felicitated.
There were cultural programmes too and the brothers of ETC also staged

of the Syro Malabar Church. His Excellencies Mar Sebastian Vadakkel
MST, Mar Thomas Elavanal MCBS, Mar Thomas Thuruthimattam CST, and
Mar Remigeos Inchanani, the bishops of the eparchies of Ujjain, Kalyan,
Gorakhpur and Thamarassery respectively and Mar Jacob Muricken, the
Auxiliary bishop of Palai visited our seminary and joined for the
tiffin. Mar Jacob Muricken and Mar Thomas Thuruthimattam CST joined
for the supper also and left in the evening. Mar Remigeos Inchanani
stayed here for 3days.
Rev. Fr. Devamitra Neelankavil from the eparchy of Sagar reached the
seminary to take classes for the Deacons on Eastern Spirituality.
One of the previous batches of ETC who were the students of Mar Joseph
Kodakallil visited the seminary as they came to participate in the
His Excellency Mar George Madathikandathil, the bishop of the eparchy
of Kothamangalam and 3 fathers of the same eparchy visited our seminary
in the morning and joined for the breakfast. Very Rev. Fr. James Mangalassery,
the Proto-syncellus of the eparchy of Idukki and some other fathers
of the same diocese also paid a visit to our seminary. They represented
the eparchy of Idukki and the bishop in the Episcopal ordination.
Today was the feast day of St. Matthew, the apostle and the evangelist.
ETC also celebrated the feast as she had 2 of her sons, Fr. Mathew
Uthirakulam and Bro. Mathew Njavarakattu bearing the name of the apostle.
Fr. Mathew offered the solemn Holy Qurbana and after the Mass all
gathered in the refectory to greet both the festarians. Fr. John Kondooparambil
of the eparchy of Ujjain joined ETC to take classes for the 1st year
theologians on Liturgy of Hours instead of Mar Joseph Kodakallil.
Bros. Thomas Cherupurackal and Dominic Savio Kollarettu celebrated
their birthday today and were greeted after the Holy Mass. Today was
a joyful one for ETC because she received the news of the appointment
of Rev. Fr. John Thoppil as the Proto-syncellus of the diocese of
Satna. He has been serving our community as the Dean of Studies, professor
and in various other ways. Very Rev. Fr. Rector congratulated him
on his appointment.
His Excellency Mar Joseph Kodakallil offered the Holy Qurbana here
in ETC today. It was his 1st arrival to the seminary after his Episcopal
ordination. After the Mass, there was a small gathering in the refectory
in which Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara welcomed and congratulated
Very Rev. Fr. Rector announced that Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottappurackal
was appointed as the new Dean of Studies of St. Ephrem’s Theological
College as Very Rev. Fr. John Thoppil is entrusted with the new office
of the Proto-syncellus of Satna. It was also said that Rev. Fr. George
Mangalapilly will be joining the resident staff of ETC as Fr. John
Thoppil is moving from here.
Today Rev. Fr. John Thoppil offered the Holy Mass. He took the charge
of the Proto-syncellus of the eparchy of Satna. Bros. Joseph Champakulathil
and Kuriakose Kudukkamthadathil celebrated their birthday. They were
greeted in the refectory. Fr. Philip Mattathil of the eparchy of Palai
and the professor of Good Shepherd Major Seminary, Kunnoth joined
the ETC community to take classes for the 2nd and 3rd year theologians
on Syriac Patrology. Fr. John Kondooparambil left for Ujjain.
It was the feast day of St. Vincent De Paul. The fathers and the brothers
joined the Vincentian study house for the Holy Qurbana and the festal
celebrations. In the evening ETC also participated in the VSH for
the delicious dinner.
Today there was a basket ball match between the brothers of ETC and
the fathers of Satna diocese. ETC won the match. In the evening, Fr.
John Thoppil, the Proto-syncellus of Satna and Fr. Martin Punnolil
came to the seminary accompanying Fr. George Mangalapilly to the seminary.
Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara gave a warm welcome to all of them.
They also joined for the supper.
Fr. Sebastian Nellikatt from the eparchy of Adilabad joined the seminary
community to take classes for the 1st years on Fundamental Moral Principles.
In the evening, before supper a small gathering was held to bid farewell
to Very Rev. Fr. John Thoppil. Bro. Sebastian Puthenpurayil made a
farewell speech remembering all the hard works of father for the seminary
and the seminary choir performed a farewell song. Very Rev. Fr. Rector
felicitated on the occasion and presented a gift to Fr. John as a
token of our love. He also officially welcomed Rev. Fr. George Mangalapilly
to the ETC community. Members of the Ephrem pariwar also took part
in the function.
Fr. Devamitra Neelankavil returned to his diocese after completing
Today it was the feast of Rev. Fr. Jerom Puthukulangara. He offered
the Holy mass in the morning and before the breakfast he was greeted
in the community. Rev. Fr. Thomas Varakukalayil returned to Kerala
after completing his courses. In the afternoon there was no class
in view of the Home Day celebrations. Brothers made the decorations,
took the practices for the programmes and did the cleaning to celebrate
St. Ephrem Theological College celebrated the Seminary Day today.
In the morning Very Rev. Fr. Rector offered the Solemn Holy Qurbana.
It was also the birthday of Bro. Mathew Njavarakattu. He was greeted
in the community after the Holy Mass. Later brothers engaged themselves
in the decoration and arrangements.
The Home Day meeting took place in the evening. His Excellency Mar
Joseph Kodakallil was the chief guest of the function. Very Rev. Fr.
Thomas Kochuthara extended a cordial welcome to all the guests. Rev.
Fr. Alex Pandarakappil, the Vice Rector presented the report of the
year 2014- 15. The function was packed with various cultural programmes
staged by the brothers. The cash award for the brothers who scored
high marks was distributed for the respective ones. The ETC auditorium
also witnessed a special event on the occasion- the publication of
the book “Do the Christians Submit to the Political Authorities?”
written by Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottappurackal. The audience included the
entire Ephrem Pariwar and fathers, brothers, sisters and candidates
from various communities and parishes of the eparchy of Satna. The
function was followed by a mouth-watering dinner in which all joined.
We received the bad news about the accident of Fr. Thomas Chirattavayalil,
the parish priest Kailaspur.
Fr. Philip Chakkummoottil left for Ujjain to take class in the Ruhalaya
Very Rev. Fr. Rector gave instruction to the brothers in the evening.
Today, Bro. Abraham Erattachirayil celebrated his birthday and was
wished the greetings during the breakfast.
It was the monthly prayer day. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Nellikatt was the
preacher. The recollection began with the night prayers.
The recollection ended by noon.
Bro. Abraham Erattachirayil celebrated his feast and the community
wished him festal greetings.
The new procurator of the ETC, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC joined
the seminary community. He belonged to the St. Thomas Province of
the congregation and the first batch of ETC. he served in one of the
parishes in Satna for a few years and worked in Iereland too. He did
his M.Th studies in Scripture from the St. Peter’s in Bangalore.
He was the director of the Vincentian Retreat centre in Jamshadpur
before his appointment here. It was the last day of the village ministry
of this semester as the semesteral examinations are going to start.
Frs. Philip Mattathil and Sebastian Nellikatt returned to their destinations
after completing their courses.
The cousin brother of Bro. Paul Edathinakath visited the seminary
and spent some time here. Today was the last day of the pastoral ministry
for the deacons. Rev. Fr. Shellmon from the Arch diocese of Bhopal
reached the seminary to take classes for the deacons on youth ministry.
ETC received the glad news that Bro. Varghese Thannickappara has got
the 3rd prize and Cash Award in the ‘Zeitler Memorial Annual
Essay Competition’ on the subject “Consecrated Life: A
Call to Greater Authenticity” conducted by the Ishvani Kendra,
the Institute of Missiology and Communications, Pune. Very Rev. Fr.
Thomas Kochuthara congratulated him on his achievement. Today we celebrated
the holy Qurbana in the Latin rite offered by Fr. Shellmon. In the
evening he returned to his diocese.
Today was the last regular class day of this semester. Fr. George
Mangalpilly left for Kerala to attend the meeting of Central Liturgical
Commission held at Kakkanad.
Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC, Bros. John S. Joseph and Joseph Rathappillil
celebrated their birthday today. They were greeted by the community.
Fr. Philip Chakkummoottil rejoined the ETC community. The 1st and
4th year theologians went and took part in the parish feast of St.
Vincent Cathedral today. ETC received two distinguished guests of
Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam, Rev. Fr. Antony Jose, his uncle and Acharyasree
Visakam Tirunal, his Yoga Guru. Very Rev Fr. Thomas Kochuthara gave
them a warm welcome.
The first semester examination began today. In the evening there was
an extended lecture on “Self Realisation: Creating link between
the Ultimate Reality and the Peripheral Reality” by Acharyasree
Visakam Tirunal. All the Brothers including the VC community and the
Fathers participated in it.
Deacons left for Nainital for their batch picnic.
Frs. Philip Chakkummoottil and Joseph Ottappurackal left for Pune
to take part in the theological conference. After the conference,
they will be taking part in the Episcopal Ordination of the new Bishop
of the Eparchy of Adilabad.
It was the day of Dasra and all the brothers were permitted to go
out to Satna to take part in the celebrations. Some brothers went
out and took part in the celebrations.
Today was the birth day of Dn. Thomas Mullenmandil. The community
prayed for him during the Holy Mass.
It was the 9th death anniversary of the Father of Bro. Kurian Uppukandathil.
The holy Mass was celebrated followed by the office of the dead for
the repose of the departed soul. Mar Ephrem Narikulam, the bishop
of the eparchy of Chanda reached the seminary as part of his visit
to the brothers from the eparchy. It was the feast day of St. Antony
Mary Claret. All the fathers of the seminary and some representatives
of the brothers went and joined the Claretian community for dinner.
Rev. Deacons returned and joined the seminary after their picnic.
The guests of Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam, Acharyasree Visakam Tirunal
and Fr. Antony Jose left for Delhi.

Dn. Job Kattapurath left for Adilabad to attend the Episcopal ordination
of their bishop, Very Rev. Msgr. Antony Panengadan.
Very Rev. Fr. Rector left for Adilabad to take part in the Episcopal
Ordination and celebrations of the new bishop.
Today was the 1st death anniversary of Fr. Raison MSFS, the cousin
brother of Bro. John Koovapparayil. The departed soul was remembered
in the Holy Mass and office of the dead was said.
Very rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara and Dn. Job Kattapurath rejoined the
seminary community after the Episcopal ordination in Adilabad.

The Village Exposure Programme of this year commenced today. The 2nd
and 3rd year theologians left for Jabalpur and Buxar respectively
early in the morning after the Holy Mass. The 1st years left for Kailaspur
by noon. Fr. George Mangalapilly rejoined the ETC today.
Rev. Frs. Mathew Uthirakulam and George Mangalapilly went to Satna
to attend the Annual retreat for Satna Eparchial priests.
Rev. Bros. Varghese Kallely and Varghese Thannickappara left for Allahabad
to represent our seminary in NITS Conference 2015 being held at St.
Joseph’s Regional Seminary. Bro. Varghese Kallely celebrated
his birthday today. The community prayed for him during the Holy Eucharist.

Frs. Mathew Uthirakulam and George Mangalapilly rejoined the community
after the retreat. The kitchen staff had an outing to Chitrakoot today.

the Holy Eucharist. Rev. Frs. Thomas Kochuthara and Mathew Uthirakulam
went to Panna to attend the Lissieu Anand School Anniversary function.
Later Rev. Frs. Thomas Kochuthara and Joseph ottappurackal went to
Satna to take part in a meeting in the Bishop’s House. Rev.
Frs. Alex Pandarakappil and Jerom Puthukulangara visited the 1st year
students who are in VEP in Kailaspur. A few faithful of the Cathedral
parish, Satna paid a visit to the seminary.
Rev. Deacons had a farewell lunch at the Bishop’s House, Satna
and they joined the CSN community for the supper. A few of the Reverend
fathers went to Maihar to participate in the parish feast.
Rev. Frs. Alex Pandarakappil and Sebastian Kallath VC attended the
SH School Anniversary in Rewa. Fr. Jerom Puthukulangara left for Gorakhpur.
Bro. Samuel Panachavilayil OIC celebrated his Feast day today and
the community prayed for him in the Holy Qurbana. Very Rev. Fr. Thomas
Vattukulam CMF the Provincial Superior of the St. Thomas Province
of the Claretian community paid a visit to the seminary. Rev. Frs.
Job Vallianiyil and Panthllooparambil from Landi along with a few
sisters visited the ETC.
Rev. Sr. Maria DST from Maihar paid a visit to the seminary.
The Comprehensive Oral Examination of the 4th year theologians took
place today. The panels for the examination consisted of Frs. Thomas
Kochuthara and George Mangalapilly in Systematic Theology, Frs. Joseph
Ottappurackal and Mathew Uthirakulam in Sacred Scripture and Frs.
James Akkamparambil and John Kondooparambil in Church History and
Bro. James Placherry celebrated his birthday today. The community
prayed for him during the Holy Mass.
We had two guests Frs. Valakamattathil VC and Parayil VC. It was another
important day for the 4th year theologians as they appeared for the
Comprehensive Written Examination today. The brothers of different
batches returned to the seminary by the evening after their VEP.
Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC left for Jamshadpur. Very Rev. Fr. Kuriakose
Munjelil MCBS, the Asst. General of the congregation reached the seminary
by noon to lead the Annual Retreat for the Deacons. The retreat began
for all after the night prayers. Fr. Thomas Urumpumkuzhy CMF, the
vocation promoter of the congregation, reached the seminary late night
to lead the retreat for the other three batches.
Bro. Samuel Panachavilayil OIC left for Kerala to attend the marriage
function of his brother.
Today was the last day of the annual retreat. We had the Raza celebration
of the Holy Euchairst offered by Very Rev. Fr. Kuriakose Munjelil
MCBS and he returned before noon. The Retreat got over by noon. Bro.
Joseph Chorattu Chamakala who celebrated his birthday today was greeted
in the refectory at noon. Fr. Jerom Puthukulangara rejoined the ETC
community. Fr. Thomas Urumpumkuzhy CMF joined the Claretian community
after the retreat and from there he will be going. The Deacons joined
with the VSH for the lunch and with the Claretians for the tiffin.
It was a joyful and at the same time sad day for the ETC. The 24th
batch of ephrem’s children went out today to achieve their dream
of priesthood. The farewell gathering was conducted in the evening
followed by the Solemn Ramsa celebrated by Dn. Sebastian Kochappilly
VC. Very rev. Fr. Rector extended a cordial welcome to all to the
function. Fr. Jerom Puthukulangara felicitated the Deacons on the
occasion. The 1st Theologians staged a felicitation song and Bro.
Varghese Kossackal expressed the words of felicitation on behalf of
the brothers. The deacons shared their experiences in ETC in between.
The gathering followed a sumptuous dinner. The VSH and the Claretian
community were present on the occasion.
Dns. Thomas Kuttikkatt, Thomas Pattery and Job Kattapurath left in
the evening. All the others had left the next day morning.
Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC rejoined the seminary. The classes for the
2nd semester started today.
The Volley Ball Court was under renovation in the last months. Today
the renovated court was inaugurated by conducting a match among the
brothers. The winners were given prizes too.
St. Ephrem’s parish was in the most joyful mood as one of her
children, Joel (Ammu), the daughter of Shino and Sheela, had received
Holy Communion for the first time. The whole Ephrem Pariwar gathered
in our chapel today evening to participate in this happy occasion.
His Excellency Mar Joseph Kodakallil offered the Holy Eucharist and
gave the First Holy Communion to Joel together with Confirmation.
Later, all gathered in the refectory and Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara
congratulated her on behalf of all. Everyone joined the delicious
All the brothers who returned with the great missionary Zeal after
the VEP were eagerly waiting for the sharing session and it was arranged
today in the evening after Ramsa. Two each from 2nd and 3rd year theologians
and one from the 1st year theology shared their missionary experiences.
A report also was presented by Bro. Varghese Thannickappara on the
NITS conference they attended. All the fathers were present on the
occasion to hear the brothers.

25 days lent began in preparation for the Christmas.

Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal celebrated his birthday today. He offered
the Holy Qurbana. After the Eucharistic celebration everybody gathered
in the refectory to extend birthday greetings to him. Very Rev. Fr.
Thomas Kochuthara greeted him the wishes of the day. In the evening
Solemn Ramsa was celebrated in connection with the feast of the Immaculate
Conception of Blessed Virgin Mary.
We celebrated the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Blessed Virgin
Mary today. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC offered the Hoy Mass. It
was also a day of great importance in the whole Catholic Church as
it was the inauguration day of the Jubilee year of Mercy announced
by Pope Mar Francis.
His Excellencies Mar Sebastian Vadakkel MST and Mar Joseph Kodakallil
visited the seminary as part of the visitation of the Synodal Commission
of ETC. They made discussions with the staff of the ETC and joined
the community for the lunch and tiffin. Both of them left in the evening.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal left for Singrauli for two days.
Rev. Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam left for Kerala for Christmas vacation.
Christmas celebrations of the year started today in the village Katoriya.
The brothers performed different programmes which conveyed the message
of Christmas. Fr. George Mangalapilly spoke to the villagers a few
words. Very Rev. Frs. Thomas Kochuthara and Alex Pandarakappil joined
the function. After the celebrations we also visited the houses of
the members of the Ephrem parish in Kothi.
Frs. Sebastian Kallath VC and Joseph Ottapurackal left for Delhi.
Today we had the Carol singing in Barakala village and in all the
communities of the Ephrem Pariwar.
We celebrated the feast of the Miraculous Cross of Mylapore today.
We had the sacred kissing of the Cross during the high sung celebration
of the Holy Eucharist. Sr. Usha SH, the Provincial of the Sacred Heart
Congregation of Delhi paid a visit to the seminary today. The Preparatory
retreat for the reception of the Minor Orders and the Diaconate started
with night points after the Leliya. Rev. Fr. Jerom Puthukulangara
was the preacher.
The preparatory retreat continued till evening with talks, confession
and holy hour. The Vincentians joined the ETC for the tea. Today we
had two guests, Fr. Joseph Periyappuram from the Diocese of Jabalpur
as a guest of Bro. John Koovapparayil and Sr. Jerosa, the aunt of
Bro. Thomas Vanchickal. Both of them visited the seminary to participate
in the ordinations of their related ones.
This was a day of immense joy for ETC as her children took a step
forward to priesthood. His Excellency Mar Joseph Kodakallil, the Bishop
of Satna conferred the Minor Orders of Karoyusa on 7 of our brothers
and Hevupadyaknusa on 18 of our brothers. 16 of our brothers received
the Major Order, Diaconate from the Bishop. Very Rev. Frs. Thomas
Kochuthara and John Kandathinkara VC, the Provincial of the St. Thomas
Province of the Vincentians assisted His Excellency in the ceremony.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Edattu VC, Fr. David from the eparchy of Sagar and
several other fathers, sisters and brothers and the members of the
Ephrem Pariwar took part in the graceful ceremonies. We also had two
guests of Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal with us, Mrs. And Mr. Barbara and
Robert Soll from Germany. They were here for two days. All the guests
joined the community for the lunch.
In the evening we had the Christmas celebrations for the entire Ephrem
Pariwar. Members from all the communities were present for the function.
There were few Christmas cultural programmes too. Brothers started
leaving right from the midnight for the Christmas vacations.
The seminary reopened after the Christmas vacation. Most of the fathers
and brothers have reached back and the rest is expected to join soon.
Dn. Dominic Savio Kollarettu, Bros. Ouseph Kodiyan and Joseph Vattapparayil
are yet to come.
Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam joined the community after the vacation.
Fr. Devamitra Neelankavil reached ETC to take classes for the 2nd
and 3rd year theologians on Sacred Orders. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal
and Bro. Ouseph Kodiyan rejoined the community after the vacation.
Today we received the glad news about the election of an Auxiliary
Bishop for the eparchy of Kanjirappilly. Very Rev. Msgr. Jose Pulickal
who was the Proto- Syncellus of the eparchy is the new bishop. The
community wished Bro. Varghese Kalakkal of the eparchy of Kanjirappilly
the greetings of the election.
Very Rev. Fr. Rector joined the community after the Christmas vacation.
He stayed back after the holidays to attend the Adhoc committee meeting
at Kakkanad. The prayer day of the month began after the leliya with
the night points. Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam was the preacher.
The prayer day continued till noon.
In the evening, before supper, everybody divulged the name of their
Christmas friends and exchanged the gifts.
Fr. Jerom Puthukulangara joined the community after the vacation.
Sr. Eliza, the Vicar Provincial of the SABS congregation, Satna together
with Sr. Mable SABS paid a visit to the seminary today.
It was the feast day of St. Sebastian, the patron saint of Fr. Kallath
VC and two of our brothers, Bros. Puthenpurayil and Kumbidiyammackal.
Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC offered the Holy Qurbana in the morning.
All gathered in the refectory to wish them the greetings of the day.
Very Rev. Fr. Rector extended the festal greetings. Bro. Joseph Vattappara
rejoined the community. Rev. Fr. Neelankavil Devamitra left for his
Diocese after completing the course. A football match and a movie
show were arranged today evening on behalf of the mission day celebrations.
Most of the Ephrem Nagar joined the event.
The mission day celebrations of the ETC took place today. Programmes
began in the morning with the inauguration by Rev. Fr. George Mangalapilly.
He also gave a thought provoking message. Lucky draw and Auction were
other attractions to collect the sum for the mission cause. Vincentian,
Bethania and Premsadan communities joined the celebrations and the
lunch. Fr. Tajo Vaniamplackal of the eparchy of Satna paid a visit
to the seminary in the evening and joined the community for the tea.
Rev. Fr. Jerom Puthukulangara left for Gorakhpur.
Today is the Republic Day of our country. All gathered in front of
the seminary for the flag hoisting ceremony. Rev. Fr. Antony Thannickal
CMF was the chief guest. He enriched us with a beautiful message.
We also celebrated the Villlage day or the Ekta Divas today for the
children from the neighbouring villages where brothers go for the
village ministry. Around 600 children came for the programme. Games
and cultural programmes were arranged for them. Refreshment packets
were distributed to them and they went back in the evening. Fr. Rony
Maruthummoottil, the director of the social service society of the
eparchy, was also present in the function.
Today, in the evening after Ramsa, the flag blessing of the feast
of the Ephrem Nagar church took place. Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara
the parish priest was the celebrant. The next 2 days are supposed
to be the main feast days. Fr. George Mangalappilly left for Bhopal
Procession of the parish feast took place in the evening after the
solemn celebration of the Ramsa led by Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara.
The procession went through all the houses in the Ephrem Nagar. Message
of the feast was delivered by Rev. Fr. John Pullan, the assistant
director of the School in Panna. After the return of the procession,
there was the blessing of the ‘nercha’.
This morning we had the celebration of the RAZA Qurbana in connection
with the parish feast. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC was the main
celebrant. Most of the fathers of the Ephrem Pariwar and all the communities
joined the celebration which was followed by breakfast.
Rev. Frs. Sebastian Kallath VC, Philip Chakkummoottil and Mathew Uthirakulam
left for Jamshadpur to participate in a Jubilee celebration.
Bro. Thomas Kanjiraparambil celebrated his birthday today and was
greeted in the refectory. Rev. Frs. James Akkamparambil and Sebastian
Kuttianiyil reached the seminary to take classes for the first years
and second and third years respectively. Fr. Sebastian Kuttianyil
is from the eparchy of Palai and is the director of the Bible Apostolate
of the eparchy. He holds a doctorate in ‘Psalms’ from
the university of Jerusalem and is taking classes on Historical Books.
The parents of Dn. Joseph Rathappillil paid a visit to the seminary
and will be leaving only after two days.
It was the birthday of Bro. Thomas Thuruthimalil. The community greeted
him the greetings of the day.
A Cricket match was conducted between the ETC team and the team of
the Claretian School in the School stadium. Some of the fathers and
brothers were present in the stadium to see the match. Though we played
well we lost the game.
Today we celebrated the feast of the commemoration of the dead as
it was the last Friday of the period of epiphany. In the morning we
offered the holy Qurbana followed by the office of the dead in commemoration
of the dead. Very Rev. Fr. Rector gave an instruction to the brothers
in the evening after the Ramsa.
Today we had three guests of Rev. Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam, Srs. Suja
Rose and Sonitha of the Christhudasi congregation and Ms. Sumi Joseph.
Sr. Suja and Ms. Sumi are the cousin sisters of Fr. Mathew. By the
evening, Rev. Fr. Cyril Anand OIC reached here and joined the community
to take classes for the students of 2nd and 3rd year theologians on
the Gospel of St. Matthew. He is the Rector of the Bethany Ashram
in Pune and a friend of Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal. The village anniversaries
of the year started today with that in the Purva village.
Today was the Ash Monday and it marked the beginning of the Season
of Great Fast. Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara was the main celebrant
of the Holy Qurbana and the ceremony of the signing of the Cross with
the ashes on the forehead. Most of the Ephrem Pariwar joined the prayerful
event. Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam celebrated his birthday today. He was
greeted in the refectory by the community at lunch. The visiting professors
were taken to Maihar for a leisure trip.
Fr. George Mangalappilly rejoined the community today.
It was the one day outing day of the semester. All the brothers had
gone out in batches to different places- 1st years to Satna, 2nd years
to Allhabad and 3rd years to Maihar. Some of the fathers with the
visiting professors have gone to Khajuraho.
Dn. Joseph Panackachira went to take part in the inter seminary Bible
Quiz competition which is conducted in the Ruhalaya Major Seminary,
Ujjain. Rev. Fr. James Akkamparambil left after completing his classes.
Bro. Varghese Thannickappara celebrated his birthday today and was
greeted in the community during breakfast.
Today Fr. Cyril Anand OIC offered the Holy Qurbana in the Malankara
Rite. Fr. John Kondooparambil of the eparchy of Ujjain joined the
community to take classes for the 1st years on theology of Liturgy.
Bro. Joseph Panackachira rejoined the community after taking part
in the Quiz competition. He scored the 2nd prize in the competition
in which twelve representatives of different seminaries participated.
Very Rev. Fr. Rector congratulated him on his achievement.
Fr. Chandy Kalathoor MST, the professor of the Ruhalaya Seminary,
Ujjain joined the community today.
It was a day of intellectual and spiritual sharing, for today the
ETC auditorium became the venue of the one day seminar on the Papal
bull “Misericordiae Vultus”. The seminar began with the
inaugural session presided over by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuttianiyil
who inspired the audience with a wonderful message. Rev. Fr. Cyril
Anand OIC was the moderator of the seminar and Rev. Fr. Chandy Kalathoor
MST was the resourced person. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal, the dean of
Studies extended the welcome to everyone. There were two sessions
of paper presentations followed by discussion in different groups.
Then there was also time for sharing and clarifications. The seminar
was concluded by the message of the moderator and the vote of thanks
by Bro. John Vazhakalayil. The VSH, Bethania, CSN communities, SABS,
SH, SD communities from Patheri, brothers from Shergunj and Madhavgath
and Fr. Antony Panachickal also took part in this intellectual banquet.
Later all joined for the lunch.
Fr. Chandy Kalathoor MST returned to Ujjain in the evening. The monthly
prayer day started today after the Leliya with the meditation points.

of the seminary went to Madhavgath to play with the minor seminary
brothers. But the team returned with the loss of game.

Some of the fathers of the ETC went to Satna to take part in the Presbyteral
Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuttianiyil left for Ujjain after completing his
Very Rev. Fr. Gevarghese Kuttiyil OIC, the Provincial of the Navjeevan
Province, of the Bethany Congregation paid a visit to the seminary.
He is a friend of Fr. George Mangalapilly and the batchmate of Fr.
Jerom Puthukulangara. Very Rev. Fr. Rector welcomed him on behalf
of the community. Rev. Frs. Cyril Anand OIC and John Kondooparambil
left for Pune and Ujjain respectively after completing their courses.
This evening, we solemnly celebrated ‘kappavattu’, the
harvest of tapioca.
Bro Kurian Uppukandathil lef for Allahabad to attend seminar on the
encyclical of Pope Francis, ‘Laodato Si’ in St. Joseph’s
Regional seminary, Allahabad. We welcomed Rev. Fr. Antony Kattuparambil
of the Arch-eparchy of Ernakulam- Ankamaly today. He is a friend of
Fr. George Mangalapilly. Today, Very Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Kuttiyil
OIC offered the Holy Qurbana for us in the Malankara rite in a solemn
form. He also had meetings with the brothers of Bethany. In the evening
he left for Bilahai. Fr. Mathew Thekkedath, the professor of Christian
Aramaic, reached the seminary to take classes for the 1st year theologians.
He is from the Arch- eparchy of Changanasserry and is the parish priest
of Navanasrath church, Kumarakom.
Today, Bro. Sebastian Kumbidiyammackal celebrated his birthday. He
was given the greetings of the day during the breakfast. In the morning,
the community gathered in the auditorium as per the instruction of
Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara, The Rector. His Excellency Mar Joseph
Kodakallil had come to meet the community. He was elected the Synod
as the chairman of the Synodal Commission for ETC which consists of
Mar Sebastian Vadakkel MST and Mar Raphael Thattil as its other members.
In the gathering Bishopji announced the appointment of Very Rev. Fr.
Joseph Ottapurackal as the new Rector of St. Ephrem’s Theological
College and the relieving of Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara, the
present Rector. He read in the community, the relieving and appointment
letters of the fathers given by His Beatitude Mar George Cardinal
Alencherry and gave the copies to respected fathers. It was at the
same time glad news and sad news to the community. Very Rev. Fr. Thomas
Kochuthara has been serving the ETC as the Rector for seven years.
He was a loving father to the community and a good professor. Very
Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal was a previous student of ETC and has
been serving as a professor for several years. He is part of the resident
staff for the last three years. The new Rector would be taking charge
on 10th of March 2016 and his appointment would for five years.
Today, Fr. Joseph Pozholiparamil VC and the brothers from the minor
seminary of the Vincentians in Madahavgarh visited ETC in the evening.
Fr. Varickamackal from the parish of Maihar along with some teachers
also paid a visit to the seminary. Today Fr. Thomas Vallianippuram
reached the seminary to take classes for the 2nd and 3rd year brothers
of the gospel of St. John.

Very Rev. FR. Thomas Kochuthara celebrated his birthday today. He
offered holy qurbana in the morning. Rev. Fr. Alex Pandarakappil,
the vice Rector greeted the wishes of the day in the community before
the breakfast. As per the direction given in the Extra- ordinary Jubilee
year of mercy, the ephrem pariwar conducted the 24hours adoration.
Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara has allotted time for the different
communities and the different batches for the adoration. The adoration
began with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament followed by Ramsa today.
Rev. Fr. Alex left for Bangalore in the morning to visit his sister
there. The 24 hours adoration ended with the solemn celebration of

We received the sad news of the demise of the paternal grandfather
of Bro. Lona Kattuparambil.
The meeting of the animators of the different villages, where the
brothers go for village ministry, was organised by the village in
chargers today afternoon. Dr. Ajay Tiwari was the chief guest and
Very Rev. Fr. Rector, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal, Fr. George Mangalapilly,
the father in charge of the village ministry and the brother leaders
of different groups of village ministry were present on the occasion.
The chief guest addressed the teachers. They were given gifts for
their valuable services they provide.
Holy mass was offered and office of the dad was said for the repose
of the departed soul of the paternal grandfather of Bro. Lona Kattuparamil.
Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC went for the Family gathering of the
Vincentian community in Madhavgath. This evening the ETC community
had tea with the Bethania community as the prenovices were bidding
farewell to the Ephrem Pariwar. They were here for the last one year
and joined with us in different programmes. Very Rev. Fr. Rector congratulated
and wished them all success in their future life.
Rev. Fr. Alex Pandarakappil rejoined the community. It was the monthly
prayer day which started after the leliya. Fr. Thomas Valliyanippuram
was the preacher.
The prayer day continued till noon. Today Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal
took charge of the office of the new rector. By the evening he left
for Delhi. This was the last day of the village and pastoral ministries
of this year.
Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal rejoined the community. Rev. Frs.
Mathew Uthirakulam and Mathew Thekkedath left for Khajuraho and Fr.
Jerom Puthukulangara to Panna for retreat preaching. Rev. Fr. Philip
Chakummoottil left for a visit to Saudi Arabia.
Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kallath VC left for Kerala and Fr. Mathew Thekkedath
left after completing his course.
Rev.Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam left for Ujjain to take a retreat. He will
be joining after a few days.
Rev. Fr. Thomas Valliyanipuram left after completing his course. This
was the last day of the regular classes of the academic year 2015-16.
The study leave and the examination days began.
It was a special day for ETC as she celebrated the feast of her new
director today together with 9 other brothers. Very Rev. Fr. Joseph
Ottapurackal offered the Holy Qurbana and gave the gospel message.
Everybody gathered in the refectory before breakfast and Rev. Fr.
Alex Pandarakappil greeted him and the brothers the wishes of the
day. Later at noon the community greeted the other festarians of the
Ephrem Pariwar, Very Rev. Frs. Joseph Edattu VC and Joseph Pulinthanathu
CMF, Sr. Joseph from Premsadan community. Very Rev. Frs. John Thoppil,
Paul Edasseril VC and Naykamparambil and sisters from the CSN also
joined the lunch. A volley ball match was conducted in the evening
sponsored by the festarians. Rev. Fr. Jerom Puthukulangara left for
Siddhi and will be joining the next day.
Today we celebrated the Palm Sunday and entered into the Holy Week.
The liturgical celebrations began in the Vincentian study house chapel
with the blessing of the Khajur (Palm leaves). Members of all Ephrem
Pariwar along with the faithful took part in the procession to ETC
chapel and the rest of the services were held there. Very Rev. Fr.
Joseph Edattu VC, the rector of the VSH was the main celebrant of
the ceremonies and Dn. Paul Edathinakath delivered the homily. All
the fathers joined the celebration.
Today ETC welcomed two distinguished guests, Very Rev. Frs. Simon
Edathiparambil and Stephen Vettuvelil, the Director and Minor seminary
Rector respectively of the Missionary Society of St. Pius X here.
They were visiting different seminaries where the brothers of the
society study and reached here to meet Bros. Jacob Kaithackathottiyil
and John Kamugumparayil. They visited the nearby communities and the
bishop’s house. We received the sad news of the demise of the
paternal uncle of Fr. Paul Kalathoor, one of the previous students
His Excellency Mar Joseph Kodakallil offered the Holy Qurbana in our
community celebrating his feast with us. Today Bro. Thomas Panthalanickal
celebrated his birthday also. The community gathered in the refectory
to greet the celebrities. Very Rev. Fr. Rector extended the greetings
of feast to Bishopji and the birthday to the brother. Bishop took
the breakfast with us. Rev. Joseph Pozholiparambil VC also joined
for the breakfast as he visited Fr. Stephen MSP who was his spiritual
father. Frs. Stephen and Simon had a leisure trip to Chitrakoot and
by the evening they left. Rev. Fr. Alex Pandarakappil left for Kerala
as he received the news of the demise of his brother- in - law. Fr.
Jerom Puthukulangara left for Gorakhpur.
Holy qurbana was offered and the office of the dead was said for the
departed soul of the brother- in- law of Fr. Alex pandarakappil.
We observed Maundy Thursday today along with the feast of the institution
of the holy Eucharist. The liturgical services began in the evening
with the solemn Holy Qurbana, and in the midst the feet washing ceremony
commemorating Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles also took place.
Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal was the main celebrant and Dn. Thomas
Cherupurackal delivered the homily. All the fathers of the Ephrem
Pariwar joined the celebration. Immediately after the Eucharistic
celebration, all gathered in the refectory to have the Passover celebrations.
The Pesaha bread and the drink were blessed by Very Rev. Fr. Joseph
Edattu VC and were distributed to everyone. All the communities and
families of the Ephrem nagar parish took part in the festival.
Today is Good Friday, the day in which we commemorate the passion,
crucifixion and the death of our lord. The liturgical services began
in the morning which consisted of the reading of the passion history,
the kissing of the Crucifix and the serving of the bitter juice. Rev.
Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam was the main celebrant and Dn. Varghese Kallely
gave the homily of the day. All the reverend fathers and the different
communities and the faithful of the Ephrem Pariwar joined the celebration.
In the afternoon entire ETC community along whit other communities
and the faithful went to Satna to join the Way of the Cross from Pateri
to St. Vincent Cathedral, Satna. It was a great act of piety and powerful
Today we observe as great Saturday. The liturgical services took place
in the morning. Blessing of the water and the renewal of the baptismal
vows were the important ceremonies. Rev. Fr. Antony Thannickal CMF
offered the holy Mass. All joined the ceremonies.
It was the most joyful day for the community for it was the great
feast of Easter, the Resurrection day of Our Lord. The liturgical
services began at 3’o clock in the morning with the rites of
the Feast of the Resurrection followed by Solemn Holy Qurbana led
by Rev.Fr. George Mangalapilly. Dn. George Muppathiyil VC delivered
the Easter message. All the fathers, different communities and the
faithful participated in the whole liturgical celebrations. Immediately
after the ceremonies, all gathered in the refectory to extend the
greetings and shaed the Easter eggs.

celebrated his birthday today and was greeted in the refectory.
The seminary day of St. Thomas minor seminary, Shergunj was celebrated
today. The fathers and brothers of the eparchy of Satna and some other
brothers from ETC also attended the function.

Today Very Rev. Fr. Rector announced the glad news about the appointment
of Fr. Philip Chakkummoottil as the new Dean of Studies of the ETC
by her Synodal commission.
In the evening, ETC auditorium became the venue of the most endearing
function of the farewell meeting of Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara,
her previous Rector. While Fr. Thomas is bidding goodbye to this institution
she loses a loving father, caring mother, competent professor, an
renowned writer, a well acknowledged theologian and a gentle man.
For the last 11 years he was here and did the services to this institution
as a spiritual father, the chief editor of the ET journal, librarian
and in several other charismas. The send-off meeting was presided
over by His Excellency Mar Joseph Kodakallil who gave the address
and read the appreciation message of Mar George Cardinal Alencherry
for Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara. His Excellency Mar Sebastian Vadakkel
MST was also present on the event and extended the felicitation. Rev.
Fr. Alex Pandarakappil and Dn. Mathew Njavarakattu said the felicitation
messages from the part of the staff and the brothers. Very rev. Fr.
Joseph Ottapurackal extended the welcome and Dn. Varghese Kossackal
said the words of gratitude. Many distinguished guests took part in
the programme. Very Rev. Fr. John Thoppil, the Proto-Syncellus of
Satna, Rev. Sr. Therese, the provincial of the SABS congregation,
many fathers and sisters from different religious institutions and
mission stations in Satna, Brothers from minor seminary, Shergunj
and several others were present on the occasion. Agape concluded the
Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal left for Bhopal this evening.
Dn. Thomas Vanchickal celebrated his birthday today and was greeted
in the community.
Rev. Fr. Alex left for Kerala for vacation. Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Ottapurackal
rejoined the community.
Rev. Frs. Antony Thannickal, Anish and Joseph Pulinthanath of the
Claretian community joined with us for the lunch. Frs. Antony and
Joseph are bidding farewell to the Ephrem Pariwar. Very Rev. Fr. Rector
felicitated on the occasion. The brothers who are part of the teaching
staff of the Claretian school joined them for the tea.
Bro. John Vazhakalayil left for Kerala for minor order and vacation.
End of the 2nd semesteral examinations. Later in the evening a prayer
session was held marking the end of the academic year. The entire
community joined it.
Seminary closed for summer vacation. Brothers started leaving for
the vacation from the midnight. Some of the 2nd theologians stayed
back for the vacation duty.
Today Bro. John Vazhakalayil was conferred the Order of Hevupadyaknusa
by His Eminence Mar Kuriakose Bharanikulangara in the Colbe Ashram
at Karukutti, Angamaly.
Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochuthara left for Kerala after completing his
term of the office of the Rector of the ETC, to the Arch eparchy of
Changanassery for the new mission.
His Excellency Mar Antony Chirayath conferred the order of Diaconate
to Bro. Cleetus Jos Palokkaran today in the Cathedral church in Sagar.
Bros. Lona Kattuparambil and Ouseph Kodiyan were conferred the Order
of Hevupadyaknusa by His Excellency Mar Pauly Kannookkadan. The event
took place in their minor seminary in Irinjalakuda today.
Brothers left for vacation after the vacation duty.
Today, Bros. Sebastian Puthenpurayil and Varghese Thannickappara of
the eparchy of Chanda were conferred the order of Hevupayaknusa by
their Bishop His Excellency Mar Ephrem Narikulam in the St. Thomas
Cathedral Church in Bellasha.
The OIC brothers of ETC were conferred the Orders at their Provincial
house in Mavelikkara. Bros. Samuel Panachavilayil, Joshua Edakadambil
and Job Kavil of the 2nd theology took their final professions and
were conferred the Order of Hevupadyaknusa by Abunmor Philipos Mar
Stephanos and Bros. George Thottumkara Muruppel and Godwin Panayarackal
were conferred Diaconate by His Excellency Thomas Mar Kurilos.
Fr. Philip Chakkummoottil returned after the vacation. Brothers came
for the vacation duty.
Rev. Fr. Mathew Uthirakulam is entrusted with the new charge of the
parish of Dewra and he took charge of the new mission today.

Today Rev. Frs. Sebastain Kallath VC and Philip Chakkummoottil and
the brothers paid a visit to Koond.
Today Fr. Christi Capuchin, the vice rector of the Capuchin philosophate
in Thrissur paid a visit to ETC. He has come with Bro. Rubil Parassery,
one of the brothers of the first year batch. It is for the first time
in the ETC that a brother of the Capuchin congregation becomes the
student and a member of the community.
